The Flintstones Turn 50...

The Flintstones are 50 years old. The first prime time animated sitcom began 50 years ago and ran for 6 years. It was the first animated show that entertained adults, not kids. As a huge fan of animation and television history it is hard to understate the impact of The Flintstones. From The Simpson to King of the Hill (even Family guy <- I write this begrudgingly), they all owe their existence to The Flintstones. I remember watching the flintstones growing up and it was great even then. it holds up. I owe a lot to The Flintstones in terms of my artistic tastes. For me, and I am sure many others my age, The Flintstones were an evoluntionary step in terms of introducing children to adult material and themes. I love the The Simpson, Park and Recs, The Office, curb You Enthusiasm because I was introduced to The Flintstones. All that said, here are two quick pieces of Flintstones trivia:

"The Flintstones: was the first American animated show to depict two people of the opposite sex (Fred and Wilma; Barney and Betty) sleeping together in one bed.
The fact that the Rubbles adopted superstrong Bamm-Bamm (they could not have children on their own) made "The Flintstones" the first animated series in history to address the issue of infertility.

Yabba Dabba Doo my friends.
