Happy New Year?

So I have a question. What is the cut off with wishing people a "happy new year"? For example, if I dont see someone until feb 16th do i still have to say "happy new year?" What is the statue of limitations on wishing someone a "Happy New Year?" just thinking out loud. By the way, this is the kind of stuff I think at while I am at work.
